The mayor of Rio de Janeiro, Eduardo Paes, informed this Monday (03/01) that it is “complicated” to have a street Carnival in the capital of Rio de Janeiro in 2022. Also, according to the head of the Rio Executive Power, there will be an official definition on the matter until next week. It is noteworthy that if cancel the party, the main reason is the recent increase in the number of Covid-19 cases, caused mainly by the Ômicron variant of Coronavirus.
At the same time, also on Monday, the Secretary of Health of Rio, Daniel Soranz, said, in an interview with “CNN,” that the city’s Carnival will have sanitary restrictions if it takes place. However, the measures would still have to be defined by the City Hall and the scientific authorities. There is pessimism regarding the control to know whether or not they are being met during the passage of blocks.
Ambev demands definition
Parallel to Paes’ announcement, Ambev, considered the leading Brazilian company in the production and distribution of beverages and which is a sponsor of the Rio Street Carnival, called the City Hall to find out, until next Wednesday (01/05/), whether or not there will be the traditional celebration of the city this year.
