“Glee Generation – O Musical” opens in Rio de Janeiro

On January 20th, 23rd, and 30th, Teatro Clara Nunes in Rio de Janeiro presents “Glee Generation – O Musical.” The show tells the story of high school seniors who are about to go through the most challenging phase of their lives as they work for their chance to win the world’s most prestigious music contest in New York and share their hopes and dreams of the new teacher at the Coral Club.

Generation Glee portrays a year full of happiness and disappointment love with songs by Lady Gaga, One Direction, Jessie J., Katy Perry, Bruno Mars, Miley Cyrus, Demi Lovato, and Madonna and loss in the lives of young students.

The Musical by British artist Martin Callaghan, actor, and director in West End London, success in Europe, arrives in Brazil with the realization of Escola de Artes Faz Assim. As in Europe, the show promises to be another box office success.

It is noteworthy that the presentation on January 30th will feature the special participation of actor, voice actor, and singer Raphael Rossato.

Health Secretary says flu cases are falling ‘expressively’ in Rio

This Tuesday (01/04), the Municipal Health Secretary of Rio, Daniel Soranz, said, in an interview with the “G1” news portal, that flu cases have been falling “expressively” in the city. According to him, the drop has already reached 82% compared to the first week of December.

The statement was given one day after the end of the flu vaccination campaign, which ended on Monday. The campaign set a record compared to 2020: “We broke the record for flu vaccination. We managed to block this flu outbreak precisely because the native of Rio de Janeiro adhered to the vaccine. There were 3 million Cariocas vaccinated — 600,000 more than last year”, he said.

Soranz argues that, in 2022, the campaign should be extended to the entire population and not just priority groups, as is often the case in Brazil.

“In April, we start a new campaign. I have been advocating with the Ministry of Health that next year’s influenza campaign be the same as in other countries, not only for priority groups but for the entire population. This is an assessment that the Ministry of Health is still carrying out”, stated Soranz.

Rio de Janeiro is among the Brazilian states with the best levels of English proficiency, according to the ranking of stories released by EF English Live, the largest online English school in the world. A nation that seeks development needs to invest in education and prepare its population for opportunities at a global level”, analyzes Wagner. The study further indicates that high proficiency rates are often accompanied by higher average income, quality of life, GDP, and increased investment in research and progress.

The first place in the ranking is the Netherlands, followed by Austria and Denmark. The three worst countries with deficient levels are the Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and, in last place, Yemen. The global results also show that Europe is the only continent with a very high regional average, although Spain and Italy still have a moderate level. In Asia, the standard for countries is medium; Africa and Latin America, low; and the Middle East is very low.

“The Municipality of Rio expects to analyze what will happen with Covid-19 in these first days of January, whether the Ômicron variant will increase expressive cases and cause more hospitalizations and deaths. At first, it seems to cause fewer serious cases than others. Let’s analyze it to give all the rules that will happen during Carnival. There will have to be some kind of sanitary rule, and it cannot be the same as the others”, said the health secretary.

This Monday afternoon (03/01), the city confirmed the second case of the Ômicron variant. In addition, a 16-year-old teenager tested positive for both Covid-19 and influenza in the town.

Also, on Monday, it was announced that the technical rehearsals of the samba schools were postponed because of the works on the Marquês de Sapucaí, which have not yet been completed, and because of the epidemiological scenario in the city.
